– Eli Yifrah, who runs the main cemetery in Ashkelon, Israel, has ordered two refrigerated shipping containers to hold the unclaimed bodies of the victims of the recent attacks. So far, only four funerals have taken place, as families are unable to bury their dead due to difficulties in the identification process.

– The recent attack by Palestinian militants has overwhelmed hospitals, morgues, and security forces in Israel. Rumors have circulated that militants are still hiding in farmlands and rockets continue to be fired from Gaza.

– The government is just now starting to organize and hospitals are struggling to treat the wounded and identify the dead. Many bodies have been brought to the emergency room with no identification.

– Israel’s security forces have set up a missing persons center, but the system is fragmented and incomplete, leaving many families with little information.

– Due to the security situation and the small size of the cemetery, many bodies have been left out in the open, which goes against Jewish burial customs.

– Residents in affected areas have been unable to hold funerals because of fears that militants are still present. Families are in pain while waiting to lay their loved ones to rest.

– In other parts of the country, the mourning process has begun with back-to-back funerals held for soldiers killed in the attacks. Mourners gathered to pray and reflect at the gravesite.

– One mother, Hannah Wacholder Katsman, is waiting to identify her son’s body and understands that there are others experiencing the same pain of loss.
